Solar PV – questions & answers

WHY INSTALL PHOTOVOLTAIC (PV) SOLAR PANELS?

Your Solar PV system will generate electricity for you. Your home or business will automatically use your solar electricity before you buy any from the grid.   Example:  Your home has an electrical demand right now of 2.5 kW.  Your PV system, right now, is producing 3 kW.  This means your home is able to run for free using the PV systems output of 3 kW and there is still 0.5 kW spare.   This can be sold to the Grid under a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) or, for maximum benefit, stored in a lithium-ion battery system

We can install an ‘Integrated-roof’ system, an ‘On-roof’ system or a ‘Ground-mounted’ system.

We only use ‘A Grade’ Mono-crystalline celled panels which are the most reactive to light.  They will produce electricity for over 25 years.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A SOLAR INSTALLER

  1. Are they a well-established company?
  2. How long have they been installing solar panels?
  3. Are they qualified electricians (NIC etc)
  4. Are they MCS accredited? This is the regulator for all renewable energy and ensure you get a quality, safe installation and you will need an MCS certificate to present to your energy supplier and your home insurer may also ask for a copy.
  5. Are they local?
  6. Can you get after-sales support?
  7. Do they have expertise in designing and installing battery systems?
  8. Does the system run from a sophisticated APP which helps you maximise your cost savings?
  9. How many systems have they installed?
  10. Can you talk to existing customers as a reference?

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Solar PV systems differ in size, specification & design.

As a guide, for 2023 a 4.0 kW roof mounted system will cost around £6,500.00 to £8,500.00 to fully supply, install and commission.

This includes the full installation, the scaffold, skip (if required) the demonstration and the connection to your computer & phone app. Then most importantly the MCS Registration of your system.

We can send a guideline estimate to you but we will need some basic information first. Please send a quick inquiry via the ‘Contact us’ tab on the home page and we will answer any specific questions you may have.

DO WE HAVE ENOUGH SUN IN THE UK TO MAKE OUR SOLAR PANELS WORK?

Yes, surprisingly the UK annually receives 60% of the light falling on the equator. South Wales has an average of around 1100kWh per kW peak installed where panels are optimally positioned. South, South East or South Westerly facing roof tops are ideal for PV in the UK.

We have installed over 480 PV systems (Domestic & Commercial) and have documented proof of how efficient and reliable these systems are in our area. (South Wales) On average OUR PV system installations are performing about 12 to 18% above our predicted annual generation.

DO I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION?

No, PV systems fall under ‘Permitted development rights’ so most domestic PV systems do not require planning permission. Listed buildings and ground-mount systems may require planning permission but laws are very lenient where Solar PV is being proposed.

Main stream government relaxed all the by-laws in April 2012 so that we can all enjoy generating our own electricity without nonsense restrictions.

HOW LONG WILL MY SOLAR PV SYSTEM BE GUARANTEED FOR?

Photo voltaic panels have no moving parts so our quality ‘A Grade’ MCS accredited PV panels are guaranteed for 25 years, but can remain efficient for up to 35 years. The higher the quality of the PV panel, the longer it remains efficient for, and the more electricity it will produce in cloudy or less light conditions. A high quality PV panel is essential for this.

Also all our inverters come with a 5 OR 10 year straight replacement warranty.
